The first league game of the new year after a very long layoff, matched us against Crofton. The boys were a little rusty and even in the warm up it showed. We welcomed Nathan Daniels into the fold and the squad of 15 looked in the first half as though they were playing the first game of the season. I was very wary of Crofton as a couple of their players were missing in the previous game.
Anyway passes did go astray and the first touch of a lot of the players was lacking, not to mention the bobbly pitch. Dan Lee went close on a few occasions before one of our many corners was converted by Nathan Carvell with a great header. The boys came in at half-time and got a roasting as they new they could do much better. Second half they played much better and but for the post Tom Law nearly notched and then a penalty was awarded and Jack Jurd did not hesitate to smash it into the goal.
Tom Griffin was replaced and Jack Butterworth went to Centre back, Alex Zotsch went into midfield and scored a screamer after some hard work by Nathan Groce.
All in all I was pleased with the performance and Jack Jurd, Alex and MOM Nathan Carvell deserve a special mention.
Well done boys and I will see you Wednesday at training.
Thanks to Chris for getting me there and helping set-up. To Martin and Chris for running the line and to Liz and the Norfolk contingent for helping with the bacon butties.
