It was great to get our first ever league win under our belts; we played away to Crofton Saints Panthers on an early, sunny, dewy Saturday morning at Crofton School.
There were some fantastic performances all over the pitch, Adam started up front for us and threatened a few times on the break, just failing to capitalise on some strong determined runs made from midfield by Ben. Adam later played in goal and did not let a ball in the net. Josh remained his dominating force at the back and worked well with his defending counter parts as we continued to switch the team. Cameron played a blinder, very disciplined in defence not letting anyone past him and holding his position well, and then later switching to midfield played an influential role.
James ran his socks off sticking close to his opposition and making some clinical clearances. For much of the time we had Joe in goal, who not only made a vital block towards the second half, but also later came on pitch and never let his player slip away from him. We showed some great passing moves and I was glad to see some of the training pay off. Jadour, our Captain for the game, was his speedy, tricky self, standing out as one of the dominant forces on the pitch and combine well with his team mates.
Allan came on the field after 10 minutes and instantly made a difference to our attacking play, he had some strong runs and a number of balls juggled off their goal line, he then eventually found a way through and hit the back of the net towards the end of the first half.
Paul played the game of his life, never giving up, working hard for his team mates, keeping to his position and passing the ball well. He scored the opener to give as the lead, Crofton Saints then hit back. By half-time however it was 1-3, with Allan and Paul scoring another goal each. We proved too strong for Crofton and continued to control the game, with a powerful penalty from Allan and then Paul clinched that all important goal giving him his hat-trick. The final score was 1 – 5 to Rangers, with Paul Lewis deservedly walking off the field with his head high and receiving the Man of the Match Trophy.
I was a great turn out from the ‘fans’ and a special thank you Kirsty for those well received half time oranges (and end of game celebration sweets!).
Well done everyone.
