Club History
LEE 'PARK' RANGERS YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB was formed in 1989 by KEN McKAY for his son, Martin, and in that first season entered an Under 9 team in the Boyatt Friendly League.Ken came from London where he watched his favourite team - Queens Park Rangers. Living now in Lee, it is obvious why he called the team Lee Park Rangers and why the Club colours are White and Royal Blue. Being new to the area, he was unaware that, north of Portsmouth, there was a district known as Leigh Park and, for several years, there was often some confusion as to where the Club came from and where they played. At the Annual General Meeting in 1997, the Club changed its name to LEE RANGERS YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB.
In 1990 the team entered the Mid Solent League as Under 10's and a second squad was added playing in the Boyatt Friendly League. The Club has grown steadily each year and now competes at all age groups from Under 11 to Under 16 in the Mid Solent League on Saturdays. There are also very strong Under 10's, Under 9's and Under 8's sections which play the small - sided Mini Soccer matches in the Mid Solent League. In the 2003 / 2004 season, the Club joined forces with Lee Community Centre F. C. and, as Lee C C Rangers, the Club members are now able to continue playing after their Youth careers are over and to make the transition into adult football.
Although Ken's original squad finished at Under 14 level, the second squad continued to compete throughout the age groups until they reached the final Mid Solent League age group at Under 16's.
Only 3 players have played in the 11 a-side teams at all 8 age groups for the Club:
- Jonathan Stubbington, 154 Mid Solent League and Cup Appearances
- Gareth Davies, 151 Mid Solent League and Cup Appearances
- Wessley Mills, 150 Mid Solent League and Cup Appearances
This second squad became the first team in the Club to win a full - sided trophy out-right when they beat Ranvilles Rangers in the Under 13 B Divisional Shield Final at the end of the 1994 - 95 season.
The following year they became the first team in the Club to win a League Championship when they won the Mid Solent Under 14 B League setting a new Club goal scoring record of 128 goals for.
During its time in the Mid Solent League, the Club has won 9 League Championships, made the League Cup Finals on 6 occasions, winning once in 2003/04. Won the Hampshire Cup once in 2004/05 and has been selected for the Divisional Shield Final on 19 occasions, winning 9 times. This is a testament to the competitive, but friendly, way that all the Club members have played their football and to the reputation that the Club enjoys.
Over the years, the Club has been area Reebok 5-a-side champions on 2 occasions, have twice been to Reading F C to take part in their half time football competition held during F A league matches and enjoyed success in various 6 a-side competitions - the most recent being the Under 11's triumph in the Mayford International Tournament.
In 2001 and 2003, the Club were awarded the "Club Secretary of the Year" shield by the Mid Solent League thanks to the efforts of Jon Herbert and Jackie Vincent and again this is testimony to the good reputation that the Club enjoys in the world of Youth Football.
